Republicans/conservatives/religious nuts hate science and progress. They’re the scourge of the earth.
Something to remember is that once we lose the ability to successfully launch spacecraft we cannot just turn a knob and get it back.
As *one* example, highly specialized parts are often necessary for spacecraft. Usually you can build a few of those parts for a given mission. It is (was) within people’s actual jobs to know how to build those specialized parts, including what materials suppliers provides a high-enough quality of material (can actually be a huge issue), how to test the raw material and manufactured parts, how to build the parts to maintain structural integrity, what types of treatments those parts need before they are integrated into a craft, what mistakes have been made before with similar parts, and even how the parts can be store the parts before integration and launch.
It’s highly specialized work that has to be supported. If we lose the personal and ability now, it will not be coming back.
They’re destroying humanity period. This goes behind just Nasa/space and into all of science. All of free critical thinking. As crazy as it sounds, the concept of truth is being destroyed.
It’s not like there is a future left, the end is nigh!
Others will pick up America’s slack. We are not the leaders anymore.
It doesn’t help that public sentiment is that space exploration is a waste of time and money and only.
The engineers left NASA long ago for the private sector. NASA is a jobs program. Another form of welfare. It is the nature of administrative bloat to eventually squeeze everyone productive out. There is a vitality at the start of a new group and over time it ossifies. Eventually cut the Gordian Knot and start fresh with a new mission with a small group of highly competent people and a small budget and build the new successor heir to the bloated gassy body of the former institution putrifying on the beach. NASA hasn’t produced since the early 1990s. Got lapped by smaller groups. It’s done.

Somehow I doubt this will destroy mankind’s ability to go on future missions. In reality, NASA will need to prioritize funding for their most important missions…and defund those deemed less important. Mankind does this around the world on a daily basis…NASA seems to be struggling with the concept.
The destruction of these resources so as to necessitate the redirection of services to privatization is inexcusably corrupt. You cripple a nation and its brightest resources so that a private company is all that is left to provide this resource of progress and intellectual momentum, and you ensure the failure of a nation by the denial of all that is learned behind the paywalls they will inevitably build.
We’re really gonna be paying more for this down the line, aren’t we?
While I hate what they’re doing to NASA mankind isn’t just the US. Just saying. Trump won’t destroy mankind, he’ll just destroy the US. It had a good run, granted.

That’s the only reason this is happening. NASA used to be a major point of pride for the United States.

This is why we can’t have nice space things.
One guy starts it, then 4 years later the other guy slashes it, just cause it had the last guy’s name on it, then starts a new one with a different mission and his name on it.

Just the USA’s ability to go to space. China will capitalize on this for their lunar base. Advancements in science and engineering will be theirs.
