Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP Vlora Çitaku said that diplomatic missions should be more engaged in the release of former KLA soldiers from Serbian authorities. Following reports that Lulzim Halili has been arrested, she said that this is not the first case, and that the same should not be treated as people without a homeland.

PDK Secretary General Çitaku stated that freedom of movement must be guaranteed, while demanding the activation of diplomatic missions.

“Of course we are following them, we have seen it and it is extremely worrying news. Unfortunately, this has now become regular news, because it is not the first case, there are other soldiers of the Kosovo Liberation Army who have been held for several months in Serbian prisons. The outgoing Government of the Republic of Kosovo should be much more active. Our diplomatic missions should be much more engaged in order to put international mechanisms into operation for their release. They are not people without a homeland, they should not be treated as people without a homeland, as people without institutions, as people whose fate no one cares about,” she declared.

She criticized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, saying that instead of dealing with small internal battles, as Çitaku expressed, it should be at the service of citizens.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, instead of dealing with small internal battles, should be in the service of the citizens of Kosovo. They are not people without a homeland, they should be treated with more dignity,” she added.

Former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) soldier Lulzim Halili was arrested by Serbian authorities in Serbia yesterday. According to Novosti, the former KLA fighter was ordered to be detained for 48 hours by the War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office. /kp/
