Hashim Thaçi speaks from The Hague: My father used to tell me, “You’re in for hard work, don’t worry about Serbia, just be with your friends, don’t be a fool.”

Former President Hashim Thaçi, in an interview for Rubikon of Klan Kosova, shared fond memories from his period of detention during 2024, when his parents visited him for the second time in the premises of the center where he is being held in The Hague.
He recalled an intimate conversation with his father in the 90s, where the latter gave him valuable advice: “Don’t worry about Serbia, but don’t be greedy with friends.”
“During 2024, although not in good health, my parents visited me for the second time in the detention center. It was a moving circumstance. Three hours passed as if they were three minutes. We remained eager to continue the conversations. Although tired from age to receive guests, they showed gratitude, appreciation for the solidarity of many people with their visits to Burojë.”
“To make the party more relaxing, I reminded them of the care they showed me when I was a student and I traveled by bus every day from Buroja to Skenderaj, they gave me money every day for burek, tea and to buy the newspaper “Rilindja”; I mostly read the sports pages, the culture section and some historical feuilleton that was worth it. They waited for me in the evening for dinner. They took great care of my hygiene and clothing. They spared me from housework.”
“I reminded my father of a conversation we had had one spring in the early nineties, now a student, during a weekend in the garden, helping him maintain the yard – mowing the grass. In a moment of rest under the shade of a cherry tree when we were alone, he said to me: “I know and I see that you have taken on heavy work,” he continued, “I want to tell you something, as far as Serbia is concerned, don’t be upset, just don’t be sad except with friends.”/KlanKosova
