The heatwave affecting Serbia will reach its peak on Friday and Saturday, 25 and 26 July, in the south and east of the country, with temperatures expected to reach up to 43 degrees Celsius, the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ) announced.
The Institute issued a heat warning through Saturday, with average temperatures ranging between 35 and 40 degrees.
The notice states that text message alerts have been sent to residents in parts of Serbia where an intense heatwave is expected, with temperatures of 38 degrees or more for five consecutive days. These messages were sent to residents of the Toplica, Jablanica, Pčinja, Pirot, Nišava and Zaječar districts.
The Hydrometeorological Institute also warned of the potential for wildfires due to the extreme heat.hea
It was noted that water levels of the Sava River near Sremska Mitrovica and Šabac are below navigational levels, and that the waters of the Kolubara, Jadar, Mlava, and the upper stretches of the Western and Southern Morava rivers are at biological minimums.
