Hi everyone, we’re planning to tow a car trailer from Slovakia to Warsaw.
Our route will look something like this: SK > Chyżne > Kraków (A4) > S7/E77 to Warsaw.
As far as I know, this stretch should be toll-free, and our actual weight should stay under 3.5 tons.
But according to the Polish websites, they seem to care more about the maximum permitted weight of the vehicle + trailer combination, which in our case exceeds 3.5 tons.
So, do we have to pay any tolls?
And if yes, how and where do we pay? I’m totally confused and would really appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

Yes, you pay. The told are for gross permissive weight (or whatever it’s called in English, the maximum weight you can get in your set), not for actual weight at the moment.
Btw. The speed limit with a trailer is 80 km/h on two lane roads outside cities and 70 km/h on single lane roads.
This is different than for other cars so on the highway you’ll be 10km/h slower than most trucks and 60km/h slower than most cars.
So:
1) Don’t get a ticket or multiple tickets.
2) Judge if you prefer a highway or some smaller road. Of course highway is still faster due to no intersections etc but it’s also going to be boring when driving this slow and seeing endless noise absorbing screens.
3) Take the speed in consideration when considering time. It will not be 6-7 hours like Google tells you.
4) Tickets depend on how much you’re going above the speed limit. Going 140 km/h instead of 80 meant that you’re going 60 over the limit and the range of ticket is 1500 PLN and 13 penality points for the first time and double after that. So if you decide to speed the entire way it could cost A LOT. If any of you are polish, you’ll lose their drivers licence after 2 tickets because of points if they’re the driver.
