The Norwegian public broadcaster NRK has officially confirmed that Norway will not return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2025.
NRK stated to Eurofestivales that they do not plan to send representatives to the competition since they lack an appropriate national selection method. The broadcaster previously used Melodi Grand Prix Junior (MGPjr) to discover young performers but discontinued the show in 2022 after twenty years of annual broadcasts.
Malin Reitan represented Norway in Junior Eurovision 2005 with “Sommer og skolefri” which became the nation’s best Junior Eurovision entry as it reached third place. The country joined fifteen other nations as one of the first sixteen to participate in the Junior Eurovision competition during its inaugural edition in 2003 before hosting the following year’s event in Lillehammer.
No plans exist for MGPjr‘s revival or a new selection process which means Norway will likely stay out of the Junior Eurovision contest during the upcoming years. As a result, the country remains absent from the list of participants for Junior Eurovision 2025.
