In honor of the 14th anniversary of the fall of Hero Enver Zymeri and the Memorial Day of police officers killed in the line of duty, the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, together with several of the acting ministers, paid homage at the Lapidary of the Fallen Police Officers.
On this occasion, Kurti said that today, honors were paid at the tomb of police officers who fell in the line of duty, 24 in total in post-war Kosovo, from Lazim Rexhepi in 2001 to Muhamet Lika in 2025.
Kurti, regarding the heroic fall of Enver Zymberi and Afrim Bunjaku, said that they gave their lives defending state sovereignty, territorial integrity, order, law, peace and security in the north of the country.
According to Kurti, Memorial Day is also closely linked to the fall of Enver Zymberi on July 26, 2011.
Kurti said that this date brings pain and sorrow, but at the same time pride, because the Kosovo Police, with over 10 thousand members, continues to be at the service of the Republic of Kosovo.
“We paid tribute here at the tomb of the police officers who fell in the line of duty, 24 in total in post-war Kosovo, starting from Lazim Rexhepi in 2001 and most recently Muhamet Lika in 2025. On this occasion, I would like to highlight our hero Enver Zymberi and also Afrim Bunjaku who fell in the line of duty while protecting state sovereignty, territorial integrity, order, law, peace and security in northern Kosovo. Memorial Day is linked precisely to the heroic fall of Enver Zymberi in 2011, on July 26, on which occasion we have pain and sorrow, we have a lot of longing but at the same time we also have pride, because the Kosovo Police is a force of 10 thousand members who serve our Republic”, said Kurti, reports kp.s
Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the Kosovo Police is a multiethnic force, which, although often attacked, has always emerged victorious and professional.
He recalled that one of the biggest challenges to its structure occurred in November 2022, when 541 uniformed police officers from the Serbian community resigned collectively.
However, Kurti stressed that the process of return and inclusion has continued, with new cadets from generation to generation joining the Kosovo Police.
“The Kosovo Police is a multiethnic force that was often attacked, but always emerged victorious. One of the structural attacks it has experienced was in November 2022, where we had 541 uniformed police officers from the Serbian community who resigned collectively… We continuously have new cadets from generation to generation who are increasing. From the Serbian community alone, we have about 200 members since their resignations who have joined the Kosovo Police and side by side with uniformed Albanians and others who serve our country and our citizens,” Kurti said.
Joining Kurti in paying homage were the acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Svecla, the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, the Minister of Culture, Hajrullah Ceku, and the Minister of Education, Arbërie Nagavci.
The Director General of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, along with other senior members of the Kosovo Police, also paid tribute.
