Researchers contributed to the Malta Vision 2050 consultation process at the Science Meets Policy event, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth, Research, and Innovation stated.

The secretariat said that the Science Meets Policy Event at Villa Bighi marked a pivotal milestone in the ongoing consultation process for Malta Vision 2050, as it continued that the event brought together key stakeholders from the research and scientific community with policymakers in order to discuss the role of research and innovation in shaping Malta’s future.

It commented that the event provided the opportunity for researchers and policymakers to collaborate in shaping a vision which ensures Malta remains resilient and innovative for future generations.

The secretariat said that the event featured a panel discussion where experts and stakeholders explored the role of research-driven policies in supporting Malta’s economic and social growth. It said that the session underscored the importance of evidence-based governance to ensure Malta’s progress in the coming decades.

Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi said that the event marked a critical step forward in the ongoing consultation process. He added that research and innovation are not just tools, but are the foundation upon which a sustainable and resilient future for Malta is built. “This event is about turning ideas into action and through strategic collaboration and evidence-based policymaking, we will ensure a thriving Malta for generations to come,” he said.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education Matthew Vella spoke of the importance of collaboration between science and policy, as he continued that lasting solutions will depend on evidence-based governance in order to continue addressing several challenges such as climate resilience, digital transformation, and others.

Jonathan Spiteri, a member of the Malta Vision 2050 team, said that the barriers experienced by researchers have been addressed over the years and will be further addressed through the implementation of Malta Vision 2050.

Public consultation on Malta Vision 2050 is open until 9 September.
