The NATO mission in Kosovo (KFOR) with US aviation troops in the Regional Command-East, is continuing to assist the Kosovo Emergency Management Agency (AME) in extinguishing the fires that have affected various parts of Kosovo.

The announcement made by KFOR states that two UH-60 Black Hawk teams carried out numerous water drops from the air over the regions affected by the fires, in an attempt to control the flames that threatened the civilian population and local infrastructure, the Telegraph reports.

“During a two-hour period, teams completed 18 water drops, bringing more than 43.500 liters of water to the affected area. Such efforts highlight KFOR’s rapid response capability and its unwavering commitment to protecting the local population and assisting civil emergency authorities during times of crisis,” KFOR said in a statement.

Otherwise, the Emergency Management Agency announced on Sunday that according to data received at the Agency’s Operations Center, a total of 80 fires have been reported in the last six hours, of which 35 are still active, while 45 have been localized.

The most difficult situation is in the Municipality of Klina, specifically in the villages of Siqevë and Resnikë.

“We call on all citizens to show increased caution, to avoid any action that could cause a fire and to immediately report any suspicious fire to the emergency numbers 112, 193 or 192,” the announcement states.

Several countries in the region, such as Albania and Greece, have also faced fires. /Telegrafi/
