The NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, in cooperation with US aviation troops deployed to the Regional Command-East, is continuing to assist in extinguishing the fires that have engulfed various parts of the country.

According to an official KFOR announcement, two UH-60 Black Hawk military helicopters have carried out a series of aerial operations to drop water on the affected areas, with the aim of keeping the flames that were endangering the lives of residents and local infrastructure under control.

“During the two hours of operation, the air crews carried out a total of 18 drops, transporting over 43.500 liters of water to the regions affected by the fires,” the KFOR statement said. It further emphasized that this intervention demonstrates the immediate readiness and strong commitment of the NATO mission to support local institutions and protect civilians in times of crisis.

Meanwhile, the Emergency Management Agency (AME) has also confirmed the worsening situation on the ground. In the last six hours alone, according to data received from the AME Operational Center, a total of 80 fires have been registered across the country – of which 35 remain active, while 45 have been localized.

The most affected areas are the villages of Siqevë and Resnikë in the Municipality of Klina, where the situation is particularly severe.
