The Salvation Army teamed up with Atmos Energy on Tuesday for the Energy Assistance Blitz.The special one-day event was designed to provide critical energy assistance to people in the Metro area as well as Copiah, Scott, Warren and Yazoo counties.The event drew many people, which proved to bring quite a bit of traffic to the Beasley Road area where the Salvation Army of Jackson has its headquarters. First responders were called when a pickup truck crashed into a nearby ditch.There did not appear to be any injuries.At the event, participants were offered on-site eligibility screenings and application assistance, one-on-one help from trained volunteers and Salvation Army staff, as well as information on long-term energy-saving programs and community resources.In a release, Salvation Army Maj. Timothy Delaney said, “We understand that many in our community are facing financial hardships, especially during the hottest time of the year. Through the generosity of Atmos Energy and the dedication of our team and volunteers, we’re committed to ensuring that families don’t always have to choose between staying cool and putting food on the table.”
