I come from western Europe and a close family member has migrated to Poland for work. Not only do I see no difference between our both countries, but every time I visit them I notice how thriving Polish economy seems to be and how well the country seems to be faring (emphasis on “seems”, I know that I’m a foreigner and can’t grasp everything that’s actually going on there)

Just a reminder.
My friend who lives in Germany reminded me lately that in Poland car is still considered luxury item and every buyer needs to pay tax for “enrichment”.

“Politicians like to set goals such as ‘chasing'” – these stupid German politicians, if only they used a different, more growth-oriented word for their mindset! Buy a Polish-German dictionary, extrapolate a line 50 years into the future and you have a superpower!
Honestly, this could be written by ChatGPT. But I’m sure German billionaires approve the message.

What a load of bullshit. The IMF ordered shock therapy performed on a living organism of Polish nation by dr. Sachs and his radical protege Balcerowicz, did not pull from but pushed Poland into chaos, hyperinflation & mass unemployment. It was our accession to EU that helped Poland realizing it’s economic potential and jumpstarted our quick progress.

People forget about Romania and the Baltic countries, which have also had a similar growth in their economies as Poland…

Overtake Switzerland??? I have no idea what the author – or the economists who did the calculations – have been smoking. When I was recently in Poland and looked beyond the façade or just two streets further, well… Poland still seems light years away from Switzerland.

This fucked up mentality might make Poland as rich as UK, but on average. 75% will be still working for slave like salary, and wont complain too much, because they will be happy about numbers, lol.
I would earn dozen times less if i had this kind of mentality.

Yes but you can’t not take into account all the money sent by the US and the EU in the last 20 years to help you develop. Just being fair. Even in 2025 Poland will be the country receiving the most money in EU budget. We all know why.
To keep improving don’t turn your country into a progressive shithole like western europe has become. Stay strong and don’t let the EU send you millions of engineers and doctors that will destroy your economy and safety.
Don’t answer cuz I won’t read.

This article is so stupid, it shifts the achievements/blame from the aspects of the economic system towards the peoples mentality.
It’s not about wishful or negative thinking, I fail to see the point.
Basically the article boils down to “Poles are doing good because they’re optimistic, we’re doing bad because we’re pessimistic”
As expected from Welt tbh, but it’s such a crap take.

I would prefer to discuss challenging ideas like degrowth, even if I have some problems with them, rather than work the shit out of myself just to see that Poland’s magical numbers and bars go up.

Poland received the largest amount of EU money among the whole union. It is basically like Qatar but instead of gas exports they got a pipeline of money from Brussels (or in other terms, from Germany, France etc).

Yes neighbours, work 80 hours per week for half the salary. Get rid of workers rights, unions and safety regulations. You’ll make shareholders very happy!
