Serbian opposition leader warns of Vučić’s purge of “unfit” people in the state

The opposition Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) warned that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is “preparing a purge of all the unsuitable” in the state apparatus.
The Secretary General of the SSP, Pedja Mitrovic, stated that Vučić, by accusing prosecutors and judges of being silent for nine months about the “destruction of the state”, is preparing the public for a purge of the unsuitable in state systems.
He stated in a statement that these are people “who, since the fall of the peak (November 1, 2024 in Novi Sad), have shown minimal resistance to progressive autocracy,” SSP reported.
“It is clear to him that he can never again rule Serbia sovereignly, as before November 2024, which directly leads to the fall of the progressive regime, therefore the only point that can save the dying regime is a purge of the disobedient. And it is clear that they do not have the strength for this,” he said.
He believes that “the policy of pressure and subjugation of the entire state apparatus to him personally in the last 13 years has generated an extraordinary amount of social injustice and anger among the people.”
He also assessed that Serbia “has therefore become a pressure cooker that is ready to explode” and that, as he stated, it is “the most unstable in the last 25 years.”
“It is clear to everyone that progressives can no longer effectively exercise power, so they are seeking salvation in repression and arrests, and as of today also in the fact that bandits in capes are beating students, in the hope of breaking the resistance with repression, which is impossible,” he said.
He also stated that Vučić, “instead of starting in the interest of Serbia with the liberation of institutions and essential democratization”, “at full speed”, as he put it, “is threatening all those who dared to rebel against progressive oppression”.
