July has been a tragic month for construction workers in Kosovo. Five workers in this sector have died this month in Kosovo. The latest case was yesterday when a worker died after falling from the building where he was working.

The victim was around 40 years old. Police said two people were interviewed as suspects in the case and then detained for 48 hours.

“On 30.07.2025, at around 12:45, in the city of Prizren, an incident was reported at the workplace where the victim N.XH., a male around 40 years old, from Drenas, while carrying out work on a roof, fell from a height and suffered serious bodily injuries. The same was urgently taken to the Prizren Regional Hospital, where later, according to official information from the emergency, it was confirmed that he died as a result of the injuries he received. The police immediately responded to the case and took testimony from the persons present at the scene,” said the Prizren Regional Police, reports Reporter.

Those detained by the Police are the supervisor and the investor of the works.

On July 21, three workers died from injuries sustained at the workplace, two in the Gjakova region and one in Istog. Meanwhile, the tragedies continued. On July 27, another worker in Ferizaj died after a crane truck fell.

According to data from the Private Sector Workers’ Association, in 2025 alone, 18 workers lost their lives in the workplace.

The President of the Private Sector Workers’ Union, Jusuf Azemi, has described the situation as alarming and extremely worrying.

Azemi days ago called on the responsible institutions to act immediately to stop this chain of tragedies in the workplace. “The Prosecutor’s Office has an obligation to take action, the Police and the Labor Inspectorate as well. This year has started as a terrible year,” he said.
