A free, one-day training session in Fairhope is offering residents the chance to become certified Master Environmental Educators, part of a volunteer program that brings environmental science lessons into Baldwin County classrooms.

Set for Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., the workshop will be held at the Gulf Coast Research & Extension Center, 8300 Hwy 104 in Fairhope. Organized by the Baldwin County Extension Office, the training equips participants with ready-to-teach lessons focused on environmental topics such as recycling, the water cycle, stormwater and groundwater pollution, energy use, invasive plants, backyard wildlife habitats and Alabama Water Watch.

Once certified, volunteers travel to public and private schools across Baldwin County to present the interactive lessons to students, encouraging environmental awareness and stewardship among youth.

No teaching experience is necessary, and all materials are provided. The program is open to anyone interested in environmental education, from retirees and college students to working professionals.

To register, call the Baldwin County Extension Office at (251) 937-0222 or email bannicj@aces.edu.
