Hi guys, have you heard about mandated age verification that passed the eu council? From what I heard, it’s going to require official docs (identity card) and an official google android os or iphone as part of the "protecting the children" campaign.

Since this is personal data and poses a security risk as well (not to mention it can be worked around for the determined youth), an international group of redditors including myself are starting a Petition and we require at least 7 people to start. We’re looking for 1 or 2 more to get this going.

A bit more detail on the law: https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/press-room/20250613IPR28905/fight-against-child-sexual-abuse-updated-rules-to-address-new-technologies

  1. Of all the things I’m pissed off about the EU, restricting youngsters access to filth doesn’t make the long list I’m afraid.

This Is a low effort try to control the internet, its abosolutely pathetic, the governament Will sell all personal information to some multinational Company so they can Spy on us, under the disguise of safety…

Ironic how they started with adult sites, instead of boomer filled social media with billions of fake profiles …….

  4. These laws never care about your children. If they really cared about children we would have no more fossil fuels usage considering your children will inherit a climate meltdown.

Sex abuse is not a technology or surveillance problem.

It’s such a lazy implementation of an idea, clearly whoever came up with this has no concept of how the internet actually works.

Just slap on a VPN on the network level and your entire household is free of this stupid rule without having to think. Takes all of 15 mins to do and will set you back ~€10 a month tops.

They’re just going to drive anyone who was doing anything questionable into even further depths of obfuscation to the point they’re virtually untraceable.

Unless this is literally just a way to get more user data and tie it specifically to individuals that can then be sold on for hyper targeted marketing…

  6. Vpn goes brrr.

If this go trough I suspect VPN’s will become alot more popular all of a sudden which in turn will make this law basically ineffective and in turn harden the populace against tracking by making vpn’s the default standard.

    Good job.You played yourself.

  7. whats wrong with this!? are you shy of saying you visited a porn site? it’s there for a good reason. I think all accounts should be vetted.

  8. the eu parliament website you linked mentions nothing about age verification for adult sites – so are you sure about that or did you link the wrong thing maybe?

  9. This has no mention of age verification. I think you are referring to the UK child online safety act

  10. lol who was the maltese politician(?) that was angry at his iptv provider not providing the adult films? That just came to mind 😂was all over facebook some years ago.

It is not the government’s job to stop children seeing tings they shouldn’t. IT IS The parent’s job if they can’t see something and if they cannot well they shouldn’t be parents in the first played.
