On 8 July 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, held a meeting with her Uzbek counterpart, Bakhtiyor Saidov, who is paying his first official visit to Tbilisi.
During the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers discussed the friendly relations and partnership between Georgia and Uzbekistan. They highlighted the high-level visits conducted in recent years, which have significantly contributed to the further strengthening of bilateral ties.
Special emphasis was placed on enhancing trade and economic relations between the two countries. The Ministers underscored the importance of joint cooperation between Georgia and Uzbekistan in the development of the Middle Corridor – a key transit route connecting East and West.
In this context, the work of the Georgia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was highly praised.
The Ministers also noted the crucial role of inter-parliamentary collaboration and stressed the importance of deepening cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science, tourism, and sports.
The conversation addressed the difficult situation in Georgia’s occupied territories. The two sides also exchanged views on the broader regional security environment and emphasized the need to ensure peace and stability.
Following the meeting, a Cooperation Programme for 2025–2026 was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The document was signed by Maka Botchorishvili on behalf of Georgia and Bakhtiyor Saidov on behalf of Uzbekistan.
As part of his visit to Georgia, the Uzbek Foreign Minister is also scheduled to meet with President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, and Minister of Education, Science and Youth Givi Mikanadze.
