    # Summary

    > Responding to an Freedom of Information (FoI) request lodged, the UK Government said Hoyle was the individual who had chosen not to release written correspondence since October 2023 between *himself* and the Israeli Embassy, Labour Friends of Israel and members or officials of the Knesset, the Israeli legislature.

    > ‘This is because the Speaker of the House of Commons, on advice from House officials, including Speaker’s Counsel and Clerk of the Journals, has formed the reasonable opinion that disclosure of the information would be likely to prejudice the effective conduct of public affairs. Section 36 FOIA provides an absolute exemption in the case of the House of Commons and the public interest test does not apply.’

    > In 2024, Hoyle was heavily criticised for allowing rules to be changed for the first time over a vote led by the SNP on a ceasefire in Palestine. The House of Commons erupted into chaos as Hoyle selected both UK Government and Labour amendments, making it the first time in at least 25 years that the move had occurred on an Opposition Day, the clerk of the House called it a “departure from long-established convention”.

    > Nearly 100 MPs signed a no-confidence motion in the Speaker – but a bid to have the issue referred to the Privileges Committee failed. Hoyle caused further outrage when he told the SNP that they would have another opportunity to put forward a ceasefire motion, but this was not followed up on.

If world leaders can’t speak candidly with each other, without the threat that anything and everything will be leaked to the press for journos to try and pick out a single sentence to make a story out of, then international diplomacy becomes impossible. Everything becomes a press release, rather than a conversation.

I can’t think of any country in the world that doesn’t allow confidential conversations between leaders

  3. He’s dodgy as fuck. Got caught on the apartheid all-expenses tour, Israeli media posted promo pictures and they had to squash the story in the UK.

I wonder if the emails mention Humza Yousaf giving £250,000 of taxpayers money to Hamas to let his parents leave Gaza

Elected officials should not be able to hide behind jargon. Government officials should be able to view communications with foreign governments and release relevant information to the public. What have they to hide?

He continues to be a disgrace in office. As speaker, he should be the person enforcing the need for the transparency that underpins this supposed democracy, yet at every turn he works to hide as much as possible and subverts proper process as he sees fit. He is absolutely corrupt and unfit for office.

  8. smells crooked. looks crooked. he used unprecedented measures to put his thumb on the scales to prevent an outcome he seems not to have wanted, and was in close communication with the country it benefitted

People in here trying to justify exposing everything.

It’s pretty gross tbh. Politicians should be able to send private emails with foreign politicians.

Where does the line exist? Do you people want CCTV in their fucking toilets? Get a grip honestly. If you police their emails in the public arena they won’t do fuck all in emails.

Just like they don’t debate in the house of commons.

All for show. You people are just asking to be lied to
