What will the political future look like in America if this gerrymandering armageddon escalates in this insanely partisan way?

WTF…what will the political future look like in America if this gerrymandering armageddon continues to escalate in such a tit for tat way?
This isn’t just a few rigged districts being stolen by the GOP here and there…we’re talking about the erosion of any meaningful voter power. If the GOP keeps redrawing the map whenever it suits them, ignoring independent oversight, and using raw power to secure permanent political advantage, then what’s left of democracy here? Republicans are trying to entrench their power for the foreseeable future.
I dont understand the “IF” in this question, by the end of this election cycle
-most/all forms of communication/dissent that can’t be controlled will be dismantled (see dismantling public broadcasting, various settlements, etc)
-over 50% of internet traffic is already bots, social media will be flooded with them pushing public opinion around
-we are so reliant on social media for organization, billionaires basically have complete control over if they allow dissenting opinions to spread/organizer or not
Gerrymandering been going on forever. Just a problem when the republicans do it.
It does suggest that American democracy, perhaps even American unity, will be endangered.
Hopefully people stop identifying with political parties, which will make gerrymandering moot.
Isn’t this generally limited to once every 10 years? How can politicians just redistrict again and again?
Gerrymandering is a fake issue. Both sides are guilty and someone will always be unhappy no matter how the districts are drawn. I’m assuming this is about TX right? The Democrats lost Texas decades ago. If they want more seats in TX they’re going to have to do ALOT more then just vacate their positions for publicity purposes. Despite what you see here on Reddit, small towns in Texas are in 100% support of Gov. Abbott. Texas is a big state with ALOT of small towns. The 3 metropolitan areas that are havens for Democrats don’t come close to the amount of support from the majority of Texans in small towns and no gerrymandering from either side will change that.
The political future is now. You’re looking at it.
It’ll be a very interesting historical experience, worth watching developing, especially as the Americans are not prepared (or willing?!?) to fight back.

Democrats have a major disadvantage here, (as with most forms of naked power grabbing). Fair play is a liberal value.
As such, many liberal states have nonpartisan redistricting commissions.
It will look like a last ditch effort to save democracy. It will favor democrats and it should be followed up with a series of laws that make all states form independent committees of citizens to determine their own districts.
Democracy has been gone since at least citizens united. These are signs of collapse
Democrats love gerrymandering when they’re in power, they wrote the book on it. Don’t be naive.
Texas is treating democracy like a Demolition Derby. All the States are watching and taking notes. One more nail in the coffin for the American experiment.
The funny thing is that the US House party distribution almost exactly matches the popular vote party distribution for 2024.
Nevertheless, the majority was decided by some 7,000 votes in three districts. With a slight change in wind direction on Election Day, Democrats could have the House majority despite losing the popular congressional vote by almost 4 million.
Ironically, Republican have gerrymandered the country into almost a purely democratic outcome, at least this time.
Assuming all was above-board in 2024 elections (and while I’m not endorsing any conspiracy theory, some weirdness did happen purely in terms of the numbers in specific districts and states), just talking about this one event, the real problem isn’t Republicans cheating. It’s people supporting them at all in sufficient numbers to take control of government.
None of their voters can name a single positive thing Republicans have done in half a century. Just ask them. It’s pure fascist sugar high reactionary nonsense born of propaganda sufficient to scramble brains into voting for them for reasons nobody can explain.
Because a human being can fully support ruination of the country by a treasonous criminal pedophile in order to prevent one transgender child from playing volleyball. We need to fix voting, but we also need to fix the human condition.
The Republicans have already been doing it for decades.
The Democrats choosing to not follow in kind is partially why they lose every other election. You can’t just not use the tools you have at your disposal if you’re opponent is using them. That’s just willingly losing.
It’s past time the Democrats stop pretending to fight and start actually fighting with every tool they have available. The Republicans are already doing it and will continue to do so until they are forced not to.
This is just a clear sign our government is not working for the people. This is a minority forcing their ideals on others. That is not democracy.
The real question that should be asked (and one I haven’t seen anyone ask yet), is “who wins”?
If we hardcore gerrymandered *every single district*, as leaned as it possible could be, which side would “come out on top”?
The answer obviously isn’t “the common person”, but I’m genuinely curious on the outcome of that.
I suppose it’d be which ever side was in control of the district evisceration, but isn’t there some “optimal” configuration?
Where every single district is min/maxed to align to the widest extreme that it can be.
The “final entropy state” of all of the districts, if you will.
What would *that* look like?
It looks like northern ireland in the eighties, but everywhere.
Republicans are vile and -NO- it is -NOT- “BoTh SiDeS”.
They are out to end -democracy-. They want to rule you. They want to dictate what you do, feel, think, wear, talk. They are for destroying the environment (that thing that hosts all life on Earth) for corporate profit, they don’t want you to have healthcare, education, or retirement.
They -SUCK-.
There’ll be no democracy in the legislative branch, and control of the house will be solely decided on who controls the governorship of certain states so they can veto the maps or approve them, and also who controls state legislatures
