Offering a bunch of bananas to a black person who believes, rightly or wrongly, that they have been racially profiled doesn’t seem like the best idea.
This was posted last night, but seems to have been deleted.
Is this a thing now? Post something popular, get a load of karma, delete it then do it all again?
Jobsworth security doing what they do best, being mugs. Offering bananas? Is that a joke?
One of the best examples of the phrase “keep digging” I’ve seen in some time.
Ridiculously insensitive.
So much so it sounds like it was lifted from a comedy sketch from the late 70’s. Their profusely apologising , trying to defuse the situation, the security guard blindly grabs something from a nearby shelf to offer as gesture of goodwill and looks down horrified to see they have picked up a banana.
I mean it’s so stupid its beyond belief.
It’s funny how these incidents of hate happen disproportionately to those with the strongest interest in race. Founding a magazine with a black focus for children. Tesco say they apologised to her and offered her fruit for free (presumably in her basket already?). Either way it seems the staff were trying to de-escalate and salve her wounds. Not to be! Straight to tiktok!
I’ve watched too much social media and I’m skeptical of everything now. It seems such an outright racist thing for someone to do, it would be mind-numbingly stupid. But mind-numbingly stupid racist people do exist so it’s possible.

Any Black person will tell you that they are constantly followed in those, no hate by the way, just anecdotal evidence, Asian-owned hair and beauty products retailers as has happened to me severally. But in a Tesco store? That’s new to me.
Makes for a good dissertation subject.
Shes over sensitive. They are just doing their jobs following customers around preventing theft. Just dont go to that store if she doesnt like it.
Shoplifting is a big problem. Grocery store workers have to do something. Basic prevention method would be keep an eye on customers because cctv have many blindspots.
Are groceries stores not allowed to keep an eye on customers? Shoplifters arent labelled on top of their head. If they dont follow any customers around, many thing will be stolen. Food prices will go up for all honest customers.
Two security guards followed her and her 2 children and offered them bananas? What are the chances this would happen to a lady promoting her magazine aimed at black girls?!
This reminds me of the woman who was held and assaulted in the hair shop in Brixton. Protests and uproar until the full cctv was released…
This happens to me in any store that has an Asian security guard, they are disgustingly racist especially towards blacks.
How far do I have to scroll down before I get to someone arguing, with all apparent sincerity, that there is nothing racially charged about offering a bunch of bananas to a black woman you have just followed around a shop in case she nicks anything?
