Energy, defense, infrastructure, and the information sector are some of the sectors that the United States of America (US) sees as opportunities for economic cooperation with Kosovo.

The US Embassy in Kosovo has told KOMA that it welcomes the Government’s decision to remove the 10 percent tariff on American goods entering Kosovo, but has not indicated whether America will do the same towards Kosovo.

“The US Embassy welcomes the removal of tariffs on US goods by the Government of Kosovo. For more information regarding tariffs, please refer to the White House or the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR). We see opportunities for economic cooperation in Kosovo in several sectors, including energy, defense, infrastructure, information technology, and cybersecurity,” the Embassy’s response states.

If there are signals that the US administration will also lift the tariff on Kosovo, there has been no response from the Government, which unilaterally removed it on August 1 for American imports.

Kosovo has not yet begun negotiations to reach a bilateral free trade agreement with the US.
