Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has categorically denied claims by some diplomats and analysts that he is offering Serbia membership in NATO in order to secure support to stay in power.
“Nobody mentioned NATO. Neither Emmanuel Macron, nor Giorgia Meloni – none of us mentioned NATO,” Vučić declared, adding that Serbia is and will remain a militarily neutral country.
“I have not asked and no one has asked me for Serbia to become a member of NATO. My idea is military neutrality. I have strengthened the army so that it is a neutral army,” he said.
The Serbian president stressed that since 2015 he has faced constant accusations that he was steering Serbia towards NATO, but according to him, “none of this has happened.”
Vučić added that Serbia made a decision through the National Security Council regarding its position towards Russia and that it has respected that decision for three and a half years.
He also accused protesters against his government of being “servants of a color revolution,” claiming that he is facing pressure because of his stances against NATO, in defense of Kosovo and Republika Srpska.
“I am exposed to the color revolution because I don’t care at all. I will not recognize Kosovo, despite the fact that they left us without Kosovo and without Montenegro,” Vučić said, blaming previous governments for this.
