hello everyone! we’re from India and are currently travelling Georgia. we noticed that whenever people (usually the older people) ask us where we are from, they invariably recall Raj Kapoor (a legendary Bollywood actor) or start singing his songs!
I found this videobut is there any other reason why Raj Kapoor is so well known here? in every other country we’ve traveled, they usually know the likes of Shahrukh Khan who is more recent.

Bollywood films and music were deemed to have no significant meaning and thus allowed to be broadcast within the USSR. Older generations are more familiar with Indian film and music than younger generations who have access to global music.
Easier to remember than Mithun Chakraborty. Disco dancer was way more popular (and fun) than Awaara. That one was really depressing
