I don’t really have an issue with people working. I would much rather effort going into properly punishing asylum seekers and others hanging around schools. Or effort put into other proper crimes.

For everyone arrested there is like a 1% chance it has an overall positive effect.

“Border security minister Dame Angela Eagle said: “Illegal working undermines our border security””

I’m sorry, what? There’s no border security and illegal working is the consequence.

Is this another one of those things that people in here said didn’t happen?

Oh no, how will these lazy people have their McDonald’s cheese burger delivered to their door for £0.50?

At least this article is much more honest than yesterday’s saying it was about ebikes lol

  6. WHY ARE THESE FOOD DELIVERY COMPANIES NOT GETTING FINED?! Fines for business can go up to £50k per illegal worker, how are these companies blatantly getting around that by abusing the self employed status

  7. Honestly the worst part for me is the amount of ebike traffic. You cant walk or drive anywhere nowadays without some dickhead who doesnt understand the concept of roads almost running ya down

  8. There’s a whole underground economy through Uber, food delivery apps, takeaways, restaurants, barbers, nail salons, corner shops, car washes, and even some construction work.

Jobs can be obtained with no questions asked, but there is no protection for the workers. Instead of going after the companies or owners, the government always goes after the workers. It makes no sense to me.

I have a Deliveroo Rider account, I have been approached many times from people asking if I can rent the account out for someone else to use.

1, I am on the hook for tax on their earnings

2, I am essentially their employer , so get a nice big fine if they don’t have the right to work in the UK (like a lot of current Deliveroo riders).

    3. You can’t fine the delivery companies, you can however go after the legitimate Deliveroo riders/contractors who let illegals use their account.

  10. Do the food delivery companies also supply ebikes to the workers? You see them in Leeds delivering on massive ebikes that surely they havent paid for themselves. Those things arent cheap

  11. Couldn’t just eat et al just implement something so that the delivery driver has to check in with Face ID when the accept each order?

It wouldn’t be perfect, but it would stop one person registering and then handing the account to someone else.

Make it compulsory for the delivery app to have a ‘Was this your Driver?’ screen with photo pop up 30s after the delivery is completed. It’s not perfect but it will be able to highlight potential ID misuse.

The delivery company should be accountable when the percentage dips below a set amount.

I wish they went after the businesses that exploited these people with half that enthusiasm. Cant play to the reform crowd as much if they did that tho.

Fine the companies 10% of world wide revenue per illegal found working for them

Be funny as fuck when they find the 11th person

Companies operating like this and the governments toothless approach are why there’s such a big hole in the budget.

    Fine the companies.
    Tax the companies.

It’s not socialism to enforce the rules.
