Most of the day didn’t have many difficulties and this was going to be a stage decided in the hilltop finish on the 3.7-kilometer long climb to Malselv. The explosive effort was one well suited to the puncheurs, and those very same riders came to the front, and differences began being made right at the start of the second half of the climb.
But the Briton didn’t have the luck of capturing the yellow jersey after a very strong attack just outside the final kilometer. Race leader Corbin Strong managed to withstand the high pace and although he couldn’t beat him at the finish line, he maintained the race lead into the final day. Pidcock will be happy with this result however, with two weeks exactly to go to the start of the Vuelta a España. Another top puncheur in Christian Scaroni rode to third on the day.
