      For all the joking here, just a friendly reminder that the Online Safety Act has come in to force. 

      Wikipedia may pull out of the UK as a result – imagine someone editing a political article and thanks to age verification here, they’re found by whichever group disagrees with it.

      This is NOT good.

      The problem is the US has an extremist view of freedom of speech that is divorced from the responsibility of its consequences. I am generally staunchly libertarian when it comes to freedom of speech, and think it shouldn’t be a crime to insult someone else’s god or other subjective stuff like that —but in lots of US States, they consider it not a crime to encourage someone to commit suicide, due to free speech reasons. That should tell you all you need to know about their myopic, heartless attitude they have over there!

      Same can be said for gun control. I am convinced that they don’t actually care about the problem (despite their protestations, thoughts and prayers), because if they actually cared, they’d have nipped it in the bud by now. Talk is cheap and actions speak louder. This isn’t a country that has any business criticising us!

      Cause yeah the UK’s certainly been getting worse for your  rights; cracking down on protest,  sending out D notices and hiring PMCs to do military operations to cover their tracks, and implementing anti-trans legislation that’s a legal minefield and callous.

      But it’s not like Norways lecturing us. And the us has been doing the exact same shit, and I suspect their qualms are not exactly based in reality, rather in some fever dream.

      I’m not taking lectures from a country run by a cartel of fraudsters, Nazis and religious fundamentalists who are currently sending the army onto the streets of their capital, using masked men to abduct people and throw them in foreign prisons and currently actively pushing a legal case that would invalidate thousands of marriages.

      There are things we haven’t done great but until the black watch are rounding up vandals on the streets of London they don’t have a leg to stand on.
