Fans Speculate That ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Is Another Surprise Double Album for One Reason originally appeared on Parade.
Clowning is a part of the Swiftie experience. She drops little hints and little crumbs everywhere, sometimes years in advance. Very few times in history have we ever been completely right, but it’s still fun to try!
After her bombshell announcement of her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, Taylor Swift sent fans into a tailspin. Not only do we not know anything about the track list: we also don’t know what the sound will be like or who’s working on it.
However, Swift published a playlist yesterday on her official Spotify account titled, “And, baby, that’s show business for you ❤️🔥,” which definitely provides some clues.
The playlist exclusively contains songs that were produced by Max Martin and Shellback, who she worked with on several of her “poppier” albums including Red, 1989, and Reputation. The return of Martin and Shellback is something swifties have been begging for, so this is big news!
It also hints that the album will be more pop-like, more akin to 1989 and Reputation. However, it also leaves fans believing that Swift has left longtime producer friends Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner behind… for now.
The Double Album Theory
It’s no secret that Taylor Swift has been known to withhold music from fans in the name of a secret; there was first folklore, who had a sister album called evermore. Then Midnights, followed by Midnights: 3am Edition. Lastly, there was The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, which was a downright double album.
When The Tortured Poets Department was first announced, fans were confused and surprised: Jack Antonoff was producing nearly every single track, and Aaron Dessner was nowhere to be found. However, Dessner was all over the Anthology.
Fans are speculating that Swift is pulling this exact move again, and that there’s another album coming titled The Death of a Showgirl. That album, allegedly, will feature more of the downbeat, sad tracks with production by Antonoff and Dessner:
Put together, the “double albums” would make “The Life and Death of a Showgirl.” Nothing is confirmed, but honestly, it adds up! Plus, that would be a really cool name for a potential tour…
