Sighnaghi, a charming town in Georgia’s Kakheti region, overlooks the Bodbe Monastery, a site of immense historical and spiritual significance. The Bodbe Monastery is famously known as the final resting place of Saint Nino, the woman credited with bringing Christianity to Georgia in the 4th century.

Saint Nino, originally from Cappadocia and raised in Jerusalem, fled persecution and ultimately arrived in Georgia, where she preached Christianity. She converted King Mirian and Queen Nana of Georgia to Christianity, leading to its adoption as the state religion. According to legend, after the conversion, King Mirian had a dream in which four stars flew across the mountains of Georgia, signifying places where churches should be built. Saint Nino chose Bodbe as the site for one of these crosses and spent the remainder of her life there living modestly in a tent. After her death around 338-340 AD, she was buried at the site, and a monastery was built in the early 4th century to honor her memory.
