Didn’t it come out recently that most data protection breaches on police databases were committed by police officers looking up women’s details for civilian men who wanted to stalk/harass them? Hardly surprising that police don’t take stalking seriously when some of them have profited from selling the personal details of women to stalkers.

I was a victim of stalking by a male friend for years, and the police and university did nothing.
He turned on me because I refused to help him cheat on an exam with his stupidly risky plan, he failed that exam and blamed it on me.
For the next 2 years he would regularly stand outside my window staring at me, followed me home, would “casually” mention that he wanted me dead and tortured (known from mutual friends who realised he was awful). He even twice tried to physically attack me (charged towards me at the park between us at night and I ran) but I had 0 evidence of this so no one cared. He would befriend anyone I did in an effort to make them hate me, and kept touching me. Many peers didn’t believe me because he was “such a nice guy”. Turned out he abused his then-gf – a lovely woman I’m friends with now.
I spoke to the university, simply asking if we could arrange a way for us to not have the same electives, and they said that *I* was being the difficult one. So I had to change my modules and I couldn’t pursue the education I actually wanted.
He then made false reports of me at the place I volunteered at as a student. Everything got debunked – in fact when I got called in and told the accusations, I immediately went “it’s this guy, isn’t it”. But the org kept getting harassed by him and a bunch of bots he set up, and they eventually let me go to “keep the peace”.
The police got involved in this time and they said there was no case unless there was proof he managed to successfully physically attack me. Despite multiple people willingly offering their own testimonies backing up my story. They interviewed him and concluded he was a “nice shy guy” from a “good family” (read: white middle class southerner) – with, of course “a bright promising future”.
They gave me a literal rape whistle and called it a day. When I told them about the park incidents, they chided me that a woman shouldn’t be out in the *children’s park outside her home* at night.
It’s been almost a decade since all this and he still regularly stalks my LinkedIn. He is very successful in his career and leads a normal life, completely free from any accountability for his actions.

Should have reported a catcalling incident, that would have go their attention. Fucking country.

Stalking isn’t taken as seriously as it needs to be.
Also, OT but still: Why did they turn up the sharpness and clarity of the photo of her soooo much?

It’s shocking how the media let Farage control the narrative about grooming gangs through a lens of somehow favouring Pakistani men, when in reality, this should actually just be exposing (like this) just how much police and the authorities simply don’t listen to women about the threat of men.

Nothing the police like to do better than victim blaming.

The bar for a harrassment charge is too high in Dcotland.

It’s true, the police and the CPS do not care.
My ex (a woman) was stalked and threatened by someone who was also harassing two other men. The police were just awful during the whole thing and the CPS decided to only prosecute the crimes against the men. How is that safeguarding women?

2 things that have been ignored by all comments so far.
1. Since 2010, policing budgets have been cut to the bone forcing police to prioritise what crimes they can commit resources towards, not one police force has ever had enough manpower and funding to investigate all crimes but it’s pretty bad now. Stalking victims are just one of several groups being left vulnerable by this.
2. She reported to the police. That may have been ineffective but reporting the incidents and having the courage to speak out about it is something to admire and encourage. We can’t get policing improvement without people in similar circumstances making a fuss, our politicians are to detached from reality to take the initiative and when they do take the initiative we get useless nonsense like the online safari bill.

So the police aren’t sorry it seems.

Not surprised. UK police and government are corrupt and racist.

I was stalked by a woman who I showed round my flat I was going to rent. She started to phone me and be a mix of silent/threatening/laughing/pleading, leave dead flowers on my doorstep, show up to things and walk past my house and look in the windows.
She told the university I was sexist and racist, that we had sex and I was basically a rapist and it was getting worse and more elaborate and exaggerated.
Police said they couldn’t help because it wasn’t a crime. I tried again a month later and they told me to log it.
The uni was very nice to me and they did have words with her after they’d asked if I’d had sex with her and had I been racist. They took my side but they couldn’t do anything.
