KEDS has announced that it has begun mass disconnections of businesses that have not entered the free market, according to the decision of the Energy Regulatory Office.

KEDS said that today they have begun disconnecting around 450 businesses, while saying that over 1400 electricity meters have been identified.

“As we informed a few days ago, in compliance with the notification-decision of the Energy Regulatory Office dated August 13, 2025, KEDS will not legally be able to allow the continuation of electricity supply to those companies that have not yet reached an agreement with any of the Suppliers licensed by ERO. Based on this and in compliance with the legislation in force, we inform you that today we have begun disconnecting around 450 businesses, which have ignored continuous calls to conclude an agreement with a Supplier, despite meeting the conditions for entering the open electricity market,” KEDS said in the announcement.

For this, KEDS said it has mobilized teams throughout Kosovo.

“We also inform you that over 1400 electricity meters have been identified on behalf of these businesses, of which over 600 are smart meters that will be disconnected remotely, while the rest will be physically disconnected at these companies, for which KEDS has mobilized teams in the field throughout Kosovo. KEDS continues to encourage these consumers to enter into agreements with a Supplier licensed by ERO, whose list is available on the ERO website, as soon as possible, to ensure continuity of electricity supply.”

This move came after ERO said it had received the second-instance decision of the Commercial Court, which accepted the regulator’s appeal against the lawsuit to postpone the liberalization of the electricity market.

Following this court decision, ERO said on Wednesday that they will be disconnected from the energy network from August 16.

ERO’s decision to liberalize the energy market entered into force on June 1. According to the decision, all companies with more than 50 employees, or turnover over 10 million euros per year, are forced to switch to the open energy market.

Companies that failed to sign a contract with a supplier were supplied by the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), as a last resort for securing electricity, for a period of 60 days. This period, for those that signed a contract with KEK, expired on July 31.
