Spain will have to defend their EuroBasket crown without one of their key contributors, as forward Alberto Abalde has been ruled out of the upcoming tournament due to injury.
The Real Madrid forward suffered a grade II myofascial tear in the short adductor muscle of his left leg during a recent preparation game against France.
The Spanish Basketball Federation confirmed that the 29-year-old has withdrawn from the national team’s training camp to begin a recovery process expected to last 2–3 weeks.
His absence further complicates the plans of head coach Sergio Scariolo, who is already dealing with injury concerns surrounding Santi Aldama and Alberto Diaz.
Earlier in the camp, young forward Eli Ndiaye was also forced to step away due to health issues, leaving Spain’s rotation notably weakened ahead of a highly competitive tournament.
