Gërxhaliu: Three damages that are affecting Kosovo after the increase in the price of electricity

Economics professor Safet Gërxhaliu has said that the increase in the price of electricity for businesses is driving away youth and capital, reducing production and forcing factories to leave Kosovo.
He said that ERO’s decision is hitting businesses.
“From this price increase, there are three phenomena that are affecting Kosovo. The first is that not only youth are leaving Kosovo, but also capital. The second, after the increase in the price of electricity, in addition to capital, production is also leaving. I am in contact with several companies that are now exploring spaces to transfer production to Albania or Macedonia, Montenegro. And the third, which is shocking, is that in Kaçanik there are two factories closed due to electricity,” said Gërxhaliu on the “Ditari” show on Tëvë1.
Regarding the free energy market, he said that this is a European directive, but according to him, there cannot be such a thing in Kosovo, where only one company is the supplier.
“There can be no liberalization of the electricity market if you only have one supplier, all these licensed companies are still based on one company. This is harming the private sector, the citizens of the country and I believe that in this current situation about electricity it can be understood that if we had a better approach, information, dialogue, we would not have such a situation,” he said.
The Chambers of Commerce have requested that ERO suspend the decision on the free energy market.
The latter has not changed its position, saying that the decision on the free energy market is legal.
Many businesses have been disconnected from electricity supply because they did not have contracts with suppliers.
