Cyclones fans and KCCI team travel to Ireland for season opener
HOP ON THAT PLANE. THE CYCLONES WON’T BE ALONE IN IRELAND. THEY’LL BE JOINED BY FANS MAKING THE TREK AND SOME FAMILIAR FACES. KCCI IS OUR TEAM. STACEY HORST SPORTS DIRECTOR, SCOTT REISTER AND PHOTOJOURNALIST DYLAN KUHN ARE IN DUBLIN FOR THE CYCLONES SEASON OPENER. AND THEY’RE ALSO SOAKING UP ALL THAT IRELAND HAS TO OFFER. HEY, EVERYBODY! WE MADE IT TO DUBLIN. WE’VE ONLY BEEN ON THE GROUND FOR ABOUT 12 HOURS NOW, BUT MAN HAVE WE BEEN AMAZED BY THE SIGHTS EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK. IT’S A PICTURE POSTCARD. YEAH, MAYBE AT HOME YOU NOTICE THERE’S A GIANT CASTLE RIGHT BEHIND US. THIS IS INCREDIBLE. THIS IS THE DUBLIN CASTLE. AND STACY. IT’S OVER 700 YEARS OLD. IT IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. WE ARE STANDING IN THE GARDENS OUTSIDE THE CASTLE, AND THE AMOUNT OF HISTORY HERE IN DUBLIN IS STUNNING. A LOT TO TALK ABOUT. IN FACT, THIS BUILDING THAT WE’RE LOOKING AT RIGHT NOW HAS SERVED AS A PRISON TREASURY COURT OF LAW, THE SEAT OF GOVERNMENT HERE, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN. AND FUN FACT, STACY, IN 1684 THERE WAS A HUGE FIRE THAT CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. BUT PARTS OF THE ORIGINAL MEDIEVAL AND VIKING STRUCTURES REMAIN. ANOTHER FUN FACT THE IRISH CROWN JEWELS. IN 1907, THEY WERE STOLEN FROM THE CASTLE. THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN RECOVERED. A LOT OF HISTORY TO LEARN, A LOT OF HISTORY TO LOVE HERE. IOWA STATE FANS ARE LOVING IT TOO. WE ARE SEEING CYCLONES EVERYWHERE. I THINK IT’S A VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR THE KIDS, GREAT FOR THE UNIVERSITY, GREAT EXPOSURE FOR ALL THE CYCLONE FANS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, AND WE’VE SEEN A LOT OF THEM SO FAR ALREADY. CYCLONES. WE HAVE SEEN IOWA STATE FANS AT THE TEMPLE BAR, THE GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE, TRINITY COLLEGE, AND ON SATURDAY, THE 109TH FARMAGEDDON TAKES PLACE BETWEEN K-STATE AND IOWA STATE. AND COMING UP AT FIVE, WE’LL SHOW YOU MORE. WE’LL TAKE YOU TO THE COASTAL TOWN OF HOWTH, WHERE WE SAW AMAZING SHORELINES, LIGHTHOUSES, FISH AND CHIPS AND OF COURSE, STACY. MORE CYCLONE FANS. YEAH, WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED. WE WILL BE SHOWING YOU THESE HIGHLIGHTS ALL WEEK LONG. WE ARE THRILLED TO BE HERE AND THRILLED TO BE SHARING ALL OF THIS WITH YOU FOR SCOTT REISTER. I’M STACEY HORST IN DUBLIN, IRELAN
