    1. Damn, have our water companies really fucked up that bad? Or are we expecting imminent war with Russia/China?

I’ve got plenty of beer supplies for july, when we kick the tories out!

And a country boy can survive

Fear porn, yet again. I bet people felt stupid when they realised they couldn’t eat a year’s supply of toilet rolls, during Covid.

    5. >People should, it suggests, also store non-perishable food that “doesn’t need cooking” such as tinned meat, vegetables and fruit, as well as baby supplies and pet food if needed.

      >The website adds that a tin opener should be in the package

      Lol

almost everybody under 30 is in a house share here in the SE, Ive had 9 people in one house before. where would it even go?

    7. I’m a single man, so this could be difficult, but based on the label on a Morrisons trifle, my family is four people.

This is essentially what I did at the start of covid (except for the water!.. who has space for 3 days of water? And for me, that’s essentially an entire suitcase of water).

I do fancy a wind up torch and radio though. All it takes is a powercut and I feel a bit remote. Found this – [https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Emergency-Survival-Flashlight-Headphone-White/dp/B0B77CJGHF](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Emergency-Survival-Flashlight-Headphone-White/dp/B0B77CJGHF)

It’ll also charge your phone, so you can play games during the apocalypse.

I know people are up in arms about this, but it’s sensible. We grew up out in the middle of nowhere, so it wasn’t unusual for electricity to go out for days at a time or for roads to be flooded or snowed under, and travel dangerous. I don’t think it’s stupid to have a few days of essentials and some candles just in case. It’s like having a spare tyre…you don’t need it, until you do

    10. At least my local shop sells water in tins, so I best get myself down there.

    11. individualcoffeecake on

What do we expect to solve in 3 days that we can’t solve in 2?

    12. bopeepsheep on

This is how I grew up – 70s, rural, no car half the week. We stockpiled all winter in case snow cut us off. Covid was pretty trivial from that perspective though by Easter 2020 I was craving salad. (Turned down an Easter egg in favour of what is now known as the Blessed Easter Cucumber.)

Evian and Fray Bentos sales have been down so they are lobbying the Tories to get everyone to bulk buy all of them to make this year’s dividend

    14. SeniorZoggy on

Great. So Rishi thinks shit is about to hit the fan and doesn’t want to be PM during that time.

    15. In Germany the government advises that you have two weeks worth of food and water.

    16. housinghelp2 on

Well I don’t have that. But it seems sensible. 3 days isn’t that much.

    17. Instead of panicking people about what processed shit they should buy for their cupboards, why don’t we do a nationwide grow campaign where the government sends everyone a seed pack to show them how easy it is to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, garlic ect in our country. There’s also plenty of things that can be grown in a windowsill or a flat balcony.

In still eating pasta sauce that I made last year from completely home grown ingredients

One decent summer where a huge chunk of the country gets involved I think it would be a huge success

    18. It’s not wrong, but I can’t help but think the timing just after Sunak and his security related speeches and the GE announcement are linked to try and drive a “labour won’t protect you stay with what you know” vote

    19. ash_ninetyone on

This advice will cause absolutely 0% panic buying I’m sure.

Feels like we’re going to get a newly commissioned series of Threads.

    20. We have nothing left to offer you but a dose of fear and hopefully a sense of dependence.

    21. lefthandedpen on

Another top tip is to buy sparkling water, most people refuse to drink it so increases your survival odds.

    22. WerewolfNo890 on

Got a 180L aquarium, does that count as 3 days of water? Although ideally would like to at least leave the last 20L or so for the axolotls we can surely share the rest.

Now kinda wonder how drinkable aquarium water is, and if you boil it first. Same with water butts.

    23. I’m guessing the shelves with canned food and water will be empty in the next days/weeks 🤦

Toilet paper panic here we go again

    24. I know you want to mark the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, but isn’t rationing going a bit over board.

    25. DexterSaintJock on

I’ve got a couple of tins of butter beans, and some water chestnuts could do some type of stir fry I suppose

    26. Alarmed_Inflation196 on

This is electioneering. Sunak wants to make people scared so he can attack Labour on being bad at security / war etc.

    27. BMW_I_use_indicators on

300% price increase on ready-made ‘Disaster Survival Packs’ incoming.

    28. bomboclawt75 on

Why would they announce this? It’s almost as if we will be at war with Russia in a few months or something. That would be crazy

    29. I’m tempted to view this as a Tory party campaign. Their stock trade is playing to fearful conservatives.

    30. penciltrash on

Surely this is just… sensible? Like even in case of a local flood, or unexpected supply chain breakdown – not even anything sinister.

    31. arsonconnor on

Like yeah having some backup food and water is sensible, but this is just fear mongering. I do have a fair bit of tinned foods and water but thats because my dad was a bit of a prepper and it rubbed off

    32. No point.

If anything happens where you have to rely on something like this, 3 days isn’t going to be enough. Nowhere near enough.

I’m not a conspiratorial person, but this is almost certainly an attempt to placebo away some fears at national unpreparedness for a disaster.

Only feasible situation i can imagine where such a small amount of food would be a sufficient emergency supply is flooding or a weather based event like flooding or a blizzard that restricts safe travel to the shops. But we all know this isn’t supposed to be about that.

    33. If the pandemic has taught me anything, I’m going to buy out 3 tonnes of toilet roll and become a ruthless profiteer in times of global crisis.

    34. JustInChina50 on

I’ve got some decent knives so should be able to get my neighbours stuff with a few quick pokes.

    35. Toblerone05 on

If there was some kind of national catastrophy that required us all to shelter in place and live off stockpiled supplies, the idea that the government would be able to resolve such a crisis in just *three days* is absolutely laughable!

    36. Cynical_Classicist on

Shame that we can’t afford it due to all of that shrinkflation.

    37. CaptMelonfish on

If the government really want us to be afraid, just cancel the general election.

    38. sensible but not stockpiling. Says 10 litres of water per day per person. So as a couple you’re suppose to have 60 litres of water stored in house where are you supposed to store that
