Four notable Jacksonville Jaguars’ players will be playing in the preseason finale against the Miami Dolphins.

Although Liam Coen said after the joint practice that the Jaguars starters would not play in this game, suiting up are Devin Lloyd, Maason Smith, Andrew Wingard, and Darnell Savage.

When it comes to Smith, with him having missed most of training camp, my guess is that the Coen wants to get him as many live reps as possible to help him acclimate to the new defense and be best prepared for the regular season.

However, with the other three players, I don’t have a strong explanation as to why they’re playing.

Anthony Campanile said recently that the safety competition is still very much ongoing. So perhaps getting Wingard and Savage additional reps is one way to get a further evaluation of each player. Antonio Johnson, who is also thought to be in the mix for playing time, is active as well.

With Lloyd, I have even less of a guess as to why he’s playing. Injuries elsewhere at linebacker? Wanting to get him added reps in Campanile’s scheme? Lloyd is a presumed starter on the Jaguars’ defense.
