Sure but this would require the police to actually enforce it which no doubt they wont

“There’s no room in prisons so let’s ban them from pubs, concerts, from claiming benefits and from getting a job.” Problem solved. As long as criminals have a life of constant exclusion from society, they’ll follow the rules. Definitely.

  3. I’m not sure exactly how this will operate, but broadly speaking it seems like a good idea. If people get suspended sentences we should use technology to force them to live a reformed life during the period of their sentence. For example if someone is in a gang and get prosecuted for a minor crime involving the gang, they should have to wear a tag and be banned from the area where the gang operates.

Perminently banning someone from the pub seems not great

But if we are trying to apply common sense restrictions to people serving sentences in the community then it could work

Say an idiot who got drunk and started a fight outside a pub, and gets an 18 month suspended sentence, perhaps banning him from pubs for the duration of the suspended sentence makes sense

If such punishments were to be applied on a case by case basis and be customised to the offenders specific crimes, I could get behind this

But long run, exile someone from society won’t work

    This better not happen.

Big Dave down the Crown always has some great deals on bikes, tools and laptops.

Usually up to 75%off in some cases.

Yay for extra judicial state sanctioned punishments, the first step in the path to “social points.” Were by those who don’t have enough points can’t travel, or do social things, like be outside after dark or shop in public.

I see this as an absurdity, very expensive and almost impossible to universally enforce meaningfully… Which will lead to needing even stricter more severe systems to control everyone.

Fuck the constant war on freedom and liberty, sack the government.

    > Offenders’ freedom could also be curtailed with limits on driving, travel bans and restriction zones confining them to specific areas, the government said.

This is straight up authoritarism. This has fuck all to do with saftey and is all about control.
