Xavier Castaneda will not be able to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the upcoming EuroBasket, it was officially announced today.
On this occasion, head coach Adis Beciragic confirmed that the naturalized American will not be able to participate in the tournament.
“As many already know, Castaneda was coming off an injury when he joined the national team preparations. At that time, all forecasts indicated he would be fully ready for the European Championship. Unfortunately, that did not happen. We waited until the last moment, but now we were simply forced to make this decision, as he has been experiencing pain that prevents him from giving his maximum effort in the games ahead,” emphasized coach Adis Beciragic.
However, a replacement for the injured Castaneda has already been confirmed: John Roberson, who has previously played for Bosnia.
“John is a player well known to the rest of the national team and will quickly fit into our system. It’s also important to note that he is in good shape, having spent the summer training, so we don’t expect any issues on that front either,” Beciragic concluded.
