Bosnia: Cvijanovic’s proposal to nominate Trump for the Nobel Prize blocked

Members of the Tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljko Komsic and Denis Becirovic, have refused to include in the Presidency’s agenda an initiative by member Zeljka Cvijanovic to nominate United States President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, reports the public Television of Republika Srpska.
Cvijanovic has previously announced that she will nominate Trump for the Nobel Prize to the Nobel Committee.
“The American president deserves this nomination because, through his diplomatic engagement and personal authority, he has achieved results that have left a significant mark on international relations and contributed to the stabilization of many crises in the world,” she said in the letter prepared for the nomination.
According to her, “gratitude for his efforts and achievements in the field of peace” justify the decision of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina to nominate President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
On July 31, 2023, the US added Cvijanović to the list of sanctioned persons, due to the threat to the Dayton Peace Agreement, as well as the integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The National Assembly of Republika Srpska has adopted two anti-Dayton laws, which deal with the non-compliance with the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the High Representative, Christian Schmidt.
Both laws have been suspended by Schmidt, but the authorities of Republika Srpska have moved forward with the procedures and have insisted that they will not respect the decisions of the High Representative, which has further deepened the institutional crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, who has been the proponent of laws for disrespecting Constitutional Court decisions, is also under US sanctions.
The US imposed new sanctions against Dodik on January 5, 2022, in addition to those of 2017, for endangering the Dayton Agreement.
The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the five Nobel Prizes.
It is awarded to individuals or organizations that have made major contributions to world peace, primarily through the promotion of fraternity among nations, disarmament, and peace.
The prize was initiated by Alfred Nobel and has been awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 1901. The ceremony is held annually, on December 10, in Oslo.
The winners are awarded with medals, diplomas and cash prizes. /REL/
