Bosnia and Herzegovina entered EuroBasket 2025 with high hopes after securing qualification in a dramatic fashion. They overturned a 13-point deficit from the first game against Croatia and went on to win the decisive matchup by an impressive 20-point margin. That victory sealed their spot in the tournament, where they are aiming to make history by reaching the second phase for the first time ever. At the same time, they hold an unfortunate record as the only team ever to finish with a positive 3–2 record in the group stage and still fail to advance to the knockout round.
The biggest setback for this team is the absence of one of the best players in Europe, Dzanan Musa, who is sidelined following abdominal surgery. In addition, Jusuf Nurkic arrived at camp out of shape, as the coach himself pointed out, so it remains to be seen how he will perform as the team’s main anchor. The naturalized player spot also went through changes during preparation, with Josh Roberson returning to the roster after Xavier Castaneda was released. On paper, this squad looks much weaker than what was expected a few months ago, especially considering that Luka Garza of the Boston Celtics is not available. Since he is also classified as a foreign player, the team opted for a point guard instead, given that their frontcourt was already filled.
As for Cyprus, there isn’t much to be said. They qualified for EuroBasket 2025 solely as hosts, not through performance. In the qualifiers, they were placed in a group with Croatia, France, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and lost all six games by wide margins. Their debut at the European Championship is the result of hosting duties rather than quality, and aside from competing with pride, they don’t have much to offer.
Looking at their roster, the majority of players build their careers in the domestic Cypriot league, which speaks to the overall lack of top-level talent. Their naturalized player is Darral Willis Jr., a center who posted the best numbers for the team in preparation games. Still, the biggest issue is the lack of quality in the backcourt, where much of the responsibility will fall on Filippos Tigkas. Another player worth noting is Konstantinos Simitzis.
