“We have often talked about Kosovo”, Shaqiri reacts after Leon Avdullah’s decision

Last night, the president of the Kosovo Football Federation, Agim Ademi, posted a photo with Leon Avdullah on social media, confirming that the latter chose Kosovo over Switzerland.

One of the most sensational likes of this photo was Xherdan Shaqiri, the Swiss football legend and originally from Kosovo, more precisely from Zhegra e Gjilani.

Shaqiri even reacted to Avdullah’s decision in Switzerland, briefly speaking to the media outlet “Blick”.

“We have often spoken about this,” Shaqiri told Blick on Tuesday. However, he does not believe it played any role in the decision: “I think he has a better chance of playing in Kosovo than in the national team. Of course he has been shown the best sporting prospects, otherwise he would not have made this move.”

While Shaqiri praises Peter Knäbel’s efforts as new president, the 33-year-old also says with a noticeable nuance: “Whether the association has done everything right is another question.”

Xherdan Shaqiri has made 125 appearances for the Swiss national team, for which he has scored 32 goals, the most of any player.
