The National Library of Malta has filed a report with the Malta Communications Authority after Meta failed to act when their official Facebook page was hacked for a second time in two years.

The Central Library of Malta announced that it has now launched new official Facebook pages for the National Library as well as Malta Libraries after its previous one was compromised just over a week ago with  images of scantily clad women.

Following a similar incident two years ago, the library had taken “immediate steps” to report the breach to Facebook’s owning company Meta and to the police. The administrator accounts were closed in line with Facebook’s procedures and a new official page was created.

However, in a post on their new official page, the National Library said that “despite repeated attempts to report and shut down the hacked pages, Meta’s response has so far proved unfruitful”.
