Such a shame, especially while almost 2 million are living abroad and the fertility rate barely supports itself

Main reason is the migration as a results of war, corruption and political instability of neighbours choosing Georgia as the safest country in the region.

95% of imigrants are russians fleeing the war, next step:
– civil rights and safety of russian population in georgia is under threat, occupy georgia
Foreigners come to my country. I hate them! They will steal my money/job/wife/traditions.
Foreigners only cause trouble. A good country shouldn’t let foreigners enter.
Well, except for that European country (or America) that I want to go to. They must let me live there. გაუმარჯოს!

From 1 side there’s the government that makes it harder to stay(no more 1 year stay exceptions for Ukrainians and next year we will have to get a work permit, even though I work remotely for a Ukrainian company lol)
And then the other side is people who think “too many migrants”
A little more motivation and I will actually get my cats the papers and move to Bulgaria or something this year, not after the russian dream changes immigration laws next year(which they announced already)

I’m a brown guy so my perspective might be limited. However most of those people are Russians and Ukrainians afaik. The Indian/Asian population here is growing but I don’t think they’re long term residents. Many people like myself will move out of Georgia after education and go somewhere else. But I definitely think that as long as you’re here you have to respect the local culture, laws and traditions otherwise you can’t survive. It’s not even respectful.

I’m a foreigner, but I don’t think this is good for Georgia. The Georgian population is too low to support such amount of immigrants. There are different main types of immigrants. 1) Russian immigrants with low income – usually gets jobs here 2) Russians with high income – pushes up the prices and usually won’t join the Georgian work force unless they start a business here 3) Indians – they don’t integrate very well 4) Iranians – they usually leave after studies 5) expats like me from western Europe – mostly push up the prices for Georgians. At this rate Georgians will be left out in the economy and being Georgian is already a separate class from people with foreign capital. With a low birthrate and a lot of foreigners who are not willing to work for Georgian salary + a decline in tourism because Georgia will lose its charm and culture.

Hope that the migrants don’t colonize the country
