L3Harris Technologies has begun manufacturing its EMX-22D electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) sensor systems at its facility in Katowice, Poland, an L3Harris representative confirmed to Janes on 26 August.

The initial production in Poland of the multisensor, multispectral imaging system is for customers in Europe, with a planned expansion to fulfil demand in the Middle East and Africa, the company representative said. In a 25 August press release, the company announced that the facility will reduce delivery timelines across Europe.

Currently, the L3Harris Katowice facility is equipped with the resources and capability to expand manufacturing from the production of the EMX-22D to “adjacent product lines as demand increases”, according to the representative.

The EMX-22D is designed for high-altitude intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) and targeting operations. The system has the capability for image tracking and moving target indicators, according to the company representative, with use cases including counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) detection and tracking. The system performs regardless of environmental conditions including bright sunlight, overcast, smoke, and complete darkness. The EMX-22D is a customised EO/IR system parallel to the WESCAM MX-Series of multisensors. “It is engineered and designed to meet the unique regional requirements of customers in Europe and surrounding areas,” the representative said.

The WESCAM MX-Series of systems includes day and night cameras with laser target designators for ISR platforms. The systems can be found on fixed-wing, rotor-wing, UASs, and aerostat platforms. The WESCAM MX-Series turrets include the airborne range, targeting and designation range, ISR and targeting range, and maritime ISR.
