From September 1, easier and cheaper procedures for importing cars to North Macedonia

From September 1, 2025, new rules for importing vehicles into Macedonia will come into effect, which will save time and money for both companies and citizens.
What changes?
No more unnecessary procedures: A car that has a European certificate (WVTA) or that is approved in Macedonia will no longer undergo additional tests. Only identification and technical inspection will be carried out.
Individual approval only for special cases: Only cars that do not have a certificate in the EU or in Macedonia will be individually approved by the Bureau of Metrology.
Cheaper: Certificates of compliance with technical requirements will cost 40–50 euros, much less than before when payments went abroad.
Faster: Approval deadlines are shortened, and procedures become more efficient.
benefits
Importing companies will save about 1,3 million euros per year.
Procedures are now carried out by authorized domestic companies, avoiding payments to foreign companies.
Citizens will have more certainty that vehicles meet European standards.
The position of the Ministry
Minister of Energy, Sanja Bozhinovska, said that these changes are a step towards approximation with EU standards and guarantee more protection for citizens during any car approval procedure.
