Two teenagers killed in crash in northern Greece

Two teenagers were killed early Thursday in a car crash on the Kastoria-Amyntaio National Road near the small town of Korissos, in northern Greece, authorities have said.

Fire officials reported receiving a call shortly before 6 a.m. about the accident, which involved a white BMW carrying a young man and a young woman, both approximately 16 years old.

The vehicle appears to have veered off course, striking trees, a fence and the ground with such force that the metal frame was completely mangled, making it hard for first responders to reach the victims.

The victims showed no signs of life when they were extricated from the wreckage and their deaths were confirmed shortly after at the Kastoria General Hospital.

Families had reportedly begun searching for the teens late Wednesday night.

Who the car belonged to was not clear.
