Budget airline Ryanair is planning to cut more flights to and from regional airports in Spain, it has emerged.
The move, which will see around one million passenger seats cut this winter, comes in response to an increase in fees by state-controlled airport operator Aena.
An official announcement is expected on 3 September, with a report in Europa Press citing Eddie Wilson, chief executive of Ryanair DAC, one of five subsidiary airlines operated by the Ryanair Group, as revealing the planned move.
In January Ryanair announced it was cutting around 800,000 seats in Spain due to “excessive fees”, with Wilson previously telling media that regional airports “need low fees to stimulate growth…otherwise the formula will not work”.
Which Ryanair routes to Spain will be affected?
Full details of which routes will be affected by the planned reduction in seats to and from Spain have not yet been revealed.
But an official announcement is expected in the coming days which will likely outline exactly which routes will be affected and how many seats will be reduced to and from certain destinations in Spain.
Given the issue is due to fees at regional airports, it is likely that these will be the ones affected.

Where does Ryanair fly to in Spain?
Ryanair flies to a range of destinations in Spain, including major cities like Barcelona and Madrid, as well as popular holiday destinations including Alicante and Malaga, and the islands of Mallorca, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife.
However, in January the company said it would cut its services on 12 routes by 18%, affecting 800,000 seats.
Airports including Santander, Santiago de Compostela and Asturias all experienced reduced operations, while flights to destinations in both Jerez and Valladolid were scrapped.
