Grant Napear returns to Sacramento radio with a new Fox Sports Radio show after a five-year hiatus.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Grant Napear is returning to Sacramento radio nearly five years after losing both his television and radio jobs in the same week.
Napear, the longtime voice of Northern California sports, announced he will host a new show on Fox Sports Radio beginning Tuesday at 3 p.m. The program airs weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m. on 104.7 FM, 890 AM and the Fox Sports KSAC app.
“I’ve been gone five years,” Napear said. “This gives me an opportunity to reinvigorate that bond, and let’s get going.”
Napear said he wrestled with whether to return but ultimately decided he missed the energy of live radio and the connection with fans.
“There’s nothing like the power of live radio,” he said.
The broadcaster was fired in 2020 after tweeting “All lives matter.” In the interview with ABC10’s Walt Gray, he said the fallout showed him how quickly life can be upended.
“I don’t think I did anything wrong,” Napear said. “I was a victim of cancel culture, but I’m OK and I’m happy now and I’m looking forward to this opportunity.”
He said the experience also revealed who his real friends were, quoting Martin Luther King Jr. and noting, “I now know who my friends are.”
Napear addressed his fractured relationship with former Sacramento Kings player and colleague Doug Christie. He said they had been close friends but felt betrayed when Christie did not publicly support him at the time.
“That hurt greatly,” Napear said. “I would love to sit down with Doug because again, I considered him to be one of my best friends.”
Despite the fallout, Napear emphasized his ties to Sacramento and his work in the community, including mentoring and helping more than 100 at-need students through college.
“I’m a forgiving person,” Napear said. “I’m willing to talk to anybody, shake hands, and I’m anxious to see how that all goes again.”
The new show will feature guests, listener calls and what Napear described as lively back-and-forth with Sacramento sports fans.
