  1. in australia, do you pay taxes to the federal government and the state/territory? i’m guessing this is your federal tax bill because it includes defence?

  2. That interest on government debt bar would get people thinking a little different about the national debt if the same was done in the US

    I love it. It was a little frustrating as someone with a short term visa in Australia though because they show you how all your taxes are spent but you don’t qualify for most of these services xD

  6. Conservative treasurer Joe Hockey had this to say when it was proposed in 2010 (but not introduced till they won power in 2013):

    > “Taxpayers have a right to know exactly how their money is being spent and this will force the government to be more accountable to taxpayers who rightly feel they are being ripped off.”

    Sadly for the Coalition, their narrative about ‘welfare rorts’ took a hit when the top three bars showed exactly what ‘welfare’ is being spent on, and their core voters (old folks and families) realised it’s not all that bad.
