Macedonia ranked 51st in the Global Peace Index published by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), or 4 places lower than last year’s ranking.

The index ranks 163 countries and independent territories according to criteria such as social security, the degree of internal and international conflict, and the degree of militarization.

According to the ranking, the country fell 4 places compared to last year.

In the region, Slovenia is in 9th place, Croatia (19th), Bulgaria (29th) and Montenegro (34th). Following Macedonia are Albania (52nd), Bulgaria (57th), Bosnia and Herzegovina (59th), Kosovo (63rd) and Serbia (64th).

Iceland has once again been named the most peaceful country in the world according to the Global Peace Index. In addition to taking first place in the ranking this year, Iceland is the third happiest country in the world according to the World Happiness Report, and is also one of the most desirable tourist destinations in the northern hemisphere.

Behind it are New Zealand, Austria, Switzerland and Singapore.

Russia is the least peaceful country in the world for the first time, followed by Ukraine.

The United States ranks low, at 128th, behind Honduras, Bangladesh and Uganda. This is largely due to its high level of militarization, which places it closer to the least peaceful end of the index, along with countries like North Korea (149), Israel (155), Ukraine (162) and Russia (163).
