State Secretary at the Ministry of Mining and Energy, Sonja Vlahović, and Jooho Whang, President and CEO of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), signed two Memoranda of Understanding on cooperation in nuclear energy and hydrogen.

The agreements were concluded at the Korea-Serbia Strategic Energy Development Forum in Belgrade, organised by the Ministry of Mining and Energy and the Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).

The nuclear energy MoU aims to support Serbia in developing and training specialists in nuclear technologies and to facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge and expertise. The hydrogen MoU focuses on assessing the potential for green hydrogen pilot projects through technical cooperation, capacity building and knowledge sharing on the full hydrogen cycle and supply chain.

State Secretary Vlahović said that Serbia views nuclear power as a potential energy source that can strengthen energy security during the transition to clean energy. “We are also very interested in the opportunities offered by hydrogen technologies, and with partners from South Korea, we will explore possible pilot projects,” she said.

KHNP President and CEO Jooho Whang noted that the partnership will support sustainable growth for both Serbia and KHNP. “We expect hydrogen demonstration projects to play a key role in developing Serbia’s hydrogen industry. The agreement will also open new opportunities for broader clean energy cooperation,” he said.

Under the nuclear energy MoU, KHNP will help design training programmes for staff in the Ministry, relevant institutions, universities and enterprises, covering nuclear technologies, safety and regulatory frameworks. It also establishes a mechanism for regular exchange of technical information, research results and best practices.
